Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Marseille on Penalties to Lift Trophee des Champions Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now secured the prestigious trophy on fourteen different times.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome Marseille in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The European champions seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the match between the French league winners and the French Cup holders after the French winger opened the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille struck twice in the closing moments to take a shock advantage. Initially, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, the Portuguese striker snatched a crucial equaliser in the final moments to send the contest into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving decisive kicks from O'Riley and Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 penalty victory.

The record champions PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the past thirteen years.
